The biggest question in my mind is whether Ruiz can stop Arreola. Chris Arreola predictionĪt 30 years old, I think Arreola would have had a great shot at beating Ruiz. Kownacki, though, Arreola set a heavyweight CompuBox record by throwing 1,125 punches in the 12-round fight. With a 38-6-1 (33 KOs) record, he’s lost to the likes of Deontay Wilder, Vitali Klitschko, Bermane Stiverne twice and Adam Kownacki. Despite his talent and his fast hands, Ruiz fell to Joshua in the rematch and to Joseph Parker earlier in his career.Ĭhris Arreola has had an 18-year career of ups and downs, and though he’s been a good opponent for the elite heavyweights, he’s never really broken through and beaten those top-level fighters. Ruiz is 32-2 with 22 KOs, and his biggest win, by far, was upsetting Joshua even though Ruiz was about an 11/1 underdog. Which means that if you used my hypothetical parlay, you had a very nice day. Meanwhile, Parker overcame a knockdown in the early seconds of the fight to beat Chisora by split decision (the judges had it 116-111 Parker, 115-113 Parker and 115-113 Chisora). Taylor also beat Jonas by close unanimous decision while defending her undisputed lightweight championship (the judges had it 96-95, 96-95, 96-94). So, if you grabbed Ruiz at +333, that’s a good result for you. But Ruiz adjusted and scored a solid victory against Arreola, winning by unanimous decision. UPDATE: Arreola made life scary for Ruiz, knocking him down with a short right hand in the second round and then hurting him multiple times in the third. Or, I suppose, you could take this approach. That would pay off about $973 on a $100 wager. Natasha Jonas at -163 and Joseph Parker to beat Derek Chisora at -188. If you were looking for a fun parlay for this weekend’s action of boxing (and this is only my opinion and not a recommendation), I might take Ruiz to win by decision at +333, Katie Taylor to win by decision vs. For what it’s worth, the powerful Joshua was the only opponent ever to knock down the steel-chinned Ruiz. If, however, you think Arreola will pull the upset, I’d much rather pick him by decision at +5000 than by KO/TKO at +1100. I think Arreola’s chin will hold up, though, so I’d be a little more comfortable taking Ruiz to win by decision at +333. If you believe in the favorite, it’s not worth betting his money line, but you could find value in Ruiz possibly getting a stoppage in rounds 9-12 at +375. BetOnline.ag has Ruiz at -2000 and Arreola at +1000, while Sports Betting Dime has it -2500 and +800, respectively. On Bet 365, Ruiz is a -2500 favorite, meaning you’d have to wager $2,500 to win $100, and Arreola is a +1200 underdog (win $1,200 on a $100 bet). On paper, this fight shouldn’t be close, and the betting odds reflect that. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images) Getty Images Andy Ruiz vs. at Barclays Center on Augin New York City.
